Recognizing Excellence in the Field of Aging

The ASA Hall of Fame Award

The ASA Hall of Fame Award is presented to an individual age 65 or older who has, through lifetime advocacy and leadership, enhanced the lives of older adults. Endowed by The Atlantic Philanthropies.

Call for Nominations
Deadline for Submissions: October 27, 2010

Please read the information below carefully before submitting nominations.

PURPOSE

The ASA Hall of Fame Award is presented annually by the American Society on Aging to an individual who has made significant contributions toward improving the lives of older adults. The award is designed to:

  1. Recognize an older person who, through her or his advocacy efforts, has demonstrated leadership on the national, regional or local level to improve the lives of older adults.
  2. Recognize the abilities and contributions of people ages 65 and over to society as a whole.
  3. Encourage advocacy efforts among older adults.

ELIGIBILITY

Any individual who is 65 or over may be nominated. Nominations may be made by ASA members, friends and staff.

CRITERIA

Nominees will be judged on the basis of:

  1. Demonstrated leadership in the field of aging.
  2. Demonstrated leadership and contributions to improving the well-being of older adults through national, state or local advocacy efforts, including community organizing, legislative advocacy and public education.
  3. Contributions to ASA through service on the Board of Directors, on committees and in other leadership roles will be considered but are not required.

MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED

Please submit the following:

  1. A completed nomination form.
  2. A brief statement (maximum 1000 words), attached to online nomination form, detailing how the nominee meets the criteria for the award.
  3. Biography or CV of nominee.
  4. Letter of recommendation from someone other than the nominator.

RECOGNITION

The ASA Hall of Fame Award will be presented at the 2011 Aging in America Conference, to be held in San Francisco, CA, April 26–30, 2011.

Winners receive the following:

  • Honorarium of $500
  • A program profile included in the Conference program, which will be distributed to 3,500 attendees and posted on the ASA website.
  • Recognition by peers at an awards presentation.
  • Complimentary conference registration.
