PHOTOGRAPHY AND POETRY CONTESTS
"Let's Rethink Aging"
NCOA and ASA are inviting submissions for the poetry and photography contests. Winners will be displayed at the Joint Conference.
SUBMISSION CRITERIA:
Photography
- Participants may submit up to three, previously unpublished, original photographs – printed from slides, negatives or original digital file format, in color or black and white, depicting this year's theme, "Let's Rethink Aging". The photographs must be taken by the contestant.
- Photographs must be no larger than 24" x 24".
- On the back of the each photo, print the title of the photo, the contestant's name, age, address and daytime telephone number. E-mail submissions should be sent as attachments formatted in JPG files only, each no more than 2 MB zipped.
- If work is selected for display or prizes, the photographer will be required to send the photograph mounted on foam core for the exhibition.
Digital Images of Original Artwork
- Participants may submit up to three digital images of original paintings, drawings, sculpture or other art media.
- The images should depict this year's theme, "Let's Rethink Aging". The digital images must be of original art created by the contestant.
- Print outs of the digital images of the original artwork must be no larger than 24" x 24".
- Each digital image should include the title of the original artwork, the contestant's name, age, address and daytime telephone number.
- E-mail submissions should be sent as attachments formatted in JPG files only, each no more than 2 MB zipped. If work is selected for display or prizes, the photographer will be required to print the digital image of original artwork and mount on foam core for the exhibition.
Poetry
- Participants may submit up to three, previously unpublished, original poems, based on this year's theme, "Let's Rethink Aging."
- Poems must be no longer than one page, single or double-spaced, typed or legibly printed, 12 pt. font or larger, in English, on 8.5" x 11" paper.
- Submit three copies of each poem, along with cover sheet that lists the title of the poem, the contestant's name, age, address and daytime telephone number.
- E-mail submissions should be formatted in MS Word, Word Perfect, or a PDF file and sent as an attachment.

All entries must be postmarked by January 12, 2007, and received by January 19, 2007.
PRIZES:
Winning photographs and digital images of original artwork will be determined by a panel of judges based upon visual composition, originality, visual appeal and relevance to the theme. Winning poems will be determined by a panel of judges based upon composition, originality, overall appeal and relevance to the theme. The decisions of the judges will be final.
The winning photos, digital images of original artwork and poems, as well as other selected entries, will be on display at the Annual Conference. Winning poems will be read at the Awards Ceremony.
